Our Story
The Tyrique Hudson Legacy of Love Foundation was established in 2020 in honor of the late Tyrique Jamal Hudson - a son, a Man of God, an intellectual, and a friend to many. On April 15, 2019, Tyrique (affectionately known as TJ) was tragically murdered by his downstairs neighbor while heading out for work. While his death highlighted the necessity to end gun violence and racial bias, TJ’s life exemplified what it means to let your light shine before others. TJ was known for his infectious smile and his willingness/desire to help others in any way he could! As he got older, he mentioned to his mother that he wanted to give back to his community once he became established in his career.
In remembrance of her beloved son, Tonya Burch created this foundation to continue the legacy of light and love that TJ so eloquently started. The foundation’s purpose is to give back to the community and students within the community of Wilson County, NC. In TJ’s honor the foundation provides scholarships to local high school seniors (especially graduating from TJ’s Alma mater - Wilson Early College Academy) rewards academic achievers throughout the year, aids with college supplies, donates to various organizations within the community, and much more!
